The technical services division of Walon UK has announced the renewal of two new £multi-million contracts with leading vehicle manufacturer, Toyota (GB).

The two year contracts will see Walon carry out the handling and enhancement of approximately 149,000 new Toyota and Lexus vehicles each year.  The first contract will operate from Toyota’s Vehicle Import Centre at Portbury and the second from its Vehicle Distribution Centre in Burnaston. Both centres are managed by Walon.

Walon, which is part of the AutoLogic Group, has a team of over 130 dedicated technical service technicians based at the two operations.  The teams carry out a complete range of vehicle enhancements and dealer fit requests, from the basic addition of model badges and the fitting of leather seats, through to the complex installation of Sat Nav and in car entertainment systems, such as DVD’s.  Walon has also introduced a number of new IT initiatives onto the contracts, such as new workshop control systems, which will help increase efficiency further.

Toyota (GB) and Walon Technical Services have worked together since 1998 and the new contract is an indication of the strength of the partnership between the two companies.  Commenting, Walon’s Technical Services Director Tim Harms said, “We are delighted to have signed these two major contracts. Toyota will be introducing a number of new models during the contract period and they have set a number of challenging targets and we are committed to ensuring we exceed their expectation.

Paul Bromley Vehicle Logistics Manager at Toyota (GB) said, “We have worked with Walon for many years and have always valued the very close and open working relationship that exists between our two companies.  Walon has introduced a number of new initiatives and enhancements into the contracts and we are looking forward to the improvements these will bring and the continued success of this long-term partnership.
