Automotive logistics specialist Walon UK has opened a new £3 million state-of-the-art vehicle storage and refurbishment centre in Corby on behalf of General Motors (GM), which will process around 40,000 vehicles a year.

The new specialist 35 acre centre, which has created 100 new jobs in the area, is one of the largest and most advanced in the UK and includes seven new paint booths, workshop areas and storage capacity for up to 6,000 vehicles.

The new centre provides the refurbishment of GMs ex-company and company fleet Vauxhall, Saab and Chevrolet vehicles, which once refurbished, are remarketed via the manufacturers’ approved vehicle programmes, such as ‘Network Q’.

Walon’s Technical Services Director Steve Berry said, “The development of the new refurbishment centre is part of a long-term used vehicle strategy for GM which will enable them to adapt to any predicted changes in the market in the coming years.”

Commenting on the new facility, Mike Brown, GM’s Used Vehicle Sales, Marketing and Operations Director said, “This is one of the most technically advanced vehicle storage and enhancement centres in the UK which has enabled us to significantly increase efficiencies throughout our fleet operation.”
